Is this a swollen lymph node in my armpit ?

Hi,

I am very worried. I had a bad bout of glandular fever this time last year. Ever since I have been suffering with sore throats and have one swollen tonsil. I have also noticed glands are up in my neck. A few weeks ago I noticed this lump in my armpit not painful but slightly tender. The nurse saw me last week and was very dismissive and told me she can’t even see or feel it and that isn’t where glands are located. I’m very worried as it has got bigger. Sorry in advance for the spikey armpit pic! I’m just really worrying about this. Can anyone advise what this could be? The side view you can visibly see it.

Just to add I have slight dumpling on the right breast too and she told me she will refer me but not urgently and I could be waiting for up to 5 months. I have a young child and I’m very scared

Hi there, could you go to your gp instead? Or is that who you mean by nurse? I would push to have bloods done to see what they show. Hope youre okay xx

@KALGXO hey thanks I tried but they said the nurse is the only one who deals with checking of lumps and referrals. My surgery js rubbished only 2 doctors who rotate. I think I might send the photos in and ask them to show someone else. Im getting so worried that it’s lymphoma and being missed. I am due to have my tonsils out in 3 months because of the one that’s swollen and it’s on the same side as the swollen gland in my armpit x I’m going out my mind with worry

Yeah it could easily be your lymphnodes being swollen due to fighting infection but if you are not feeling you're being seen maybe go to an out of hours and see if they will see you. Xx

If your worried don't wait, it is too stressful for you. Don't let the GP fob you off. Hope all is ok

Slas1992 · 19/04/2022 15:53

@purpleboy thank you Smile yes I think I’m going to email them the photos and say a GP needs to take a look I am very worried about it. She just seemed so sure glands aren’t located there so I’m confused

I would insist on seeing a doctor. Dimpling has to be checked out, ditto swollen lymph glands.

Slas1992 · 19/04/2022 19:43

@Saracenia yes I am going to send them an email with the photos this evening and call tomorrow. I think if they see on my notes the nurse has already seen me they won’t give me an appointment but if I send them photos it might help. Feel sick with worry. I just don’t know if that is a gland or not but still a lump isn’t something she should dismiss.

I’ve also booked a private gp appointment for tomorrow over video call to see what they advise and if they can write to my GP. I’m desperate. Getting an appointment with my GP is practically impossible the receptionist gets the nurse to do everything

Have you got any other symptoms or just the lump in your armpit? I had one a couple of months ago and it turned out to be an abscess treated with antibiotics x

Slas1992 · 19/04/2022 19:50

@jess0902 just the lump. It’s so big that’s why I’m worried and only becomes tender if I prod around feeling it. My main concern is the fact I have one swollen tonsil and a small inflamed lymph node on the same side and now this has appeared. I am petrified it could be lymphoma. Especially since having glandular fever last year (it can cause it)

Can I ask what yours was like please ? How long did you have it for? IX

@Slas1992 mine was like a pea but my background is malignant Haematology so I had the same worry as you so one of the doctors at work checked for me and told me that it was an abscess and to ring the GP for antibiotics. I would ring the GP back tomorrow and ask for a FT referral to Haematology as you’ll be seen within 2 weeks. X

Slas1992 · 19/04/2022 22:18

@jess0902 oh no that is worrying but what a relief for you ! Thanks I have sent them a lengthy email this evening with lots of photos and all my worries and will call them tomorrow afternoon. I said I only want to see a doctor and for this to be checked properly etc. Hopefully they see it before I call I have been in tears tonight to my partner just so frustrating that it’s so hard to see a GP or get a referral anywhere x
