Continuous chest infections

For the last three years, I have had constant chest infections. Each time I get a cold then it turns into 2 month long coughing. The GP gives me antibiotics each time but doesn't do any other checks.

Is there something that can be investigated? My DH keeps saying that he is worried about me and my cough but I can never see a GP for long enough to ask if they can do anything else.

I have had covid last week and previous episodes have never been covid.

I used to cough for months after every cold. Turns out it was asthma. I now take a regular preventer inhaler and increase the dosage when I have a cold. I cough for maybe a couple of weeks afterwards, if at all, and never as badly as before.

Worth investigating?

I thought asthma too.

Afaik it can come on later in life, often triggered by pollution!

DP was in exactly the same boat as you some years ago (in his late twenties at the time) and it was diagnosed as 'winter' asthma. The cough would go on for weeks and weeks. He also has dust and pet allergies and the main symptom is an asthmatic cough which is hard to shift. Our youngest DS similarly has asthma triggered by colds and viruses and no evidence of breathlessness at any other time. Inhalers have been fantastic and put a stop to the scary hospital trips.

Oh how interesting, I had not though about asthma. My Dsis has it and did from childhood so I guess I didn't associate it.

I will try and ask the GP about that.

Following with interest. I'm currently week 4 of a chest infection. I've had two lots of antibiotics but still constantly coughing up thick phlegm. Had a chest x ray a couple of weeks ago. Just waiting for a callback from my GP
