Chest infection/cold - not covid

ValerieCupcake · 17/04/2022 00:06

I started to feel slightly unwell at the beginning of this week. Sore throat but that went away within a day. Head cold, then turned by Thursday night to chest infection (TMI but green gunge). Cough, cough cough to the point I have pulled stomach and shoulder muscles. It is not covid. Three tests tell me so. I had the week off work and feel what a waste. Not sleeping because coughing all night.

I met my friend on Sunday last week and she called Thursday saying she has the same symptoms. Spoke again tonight. Also not covid, several negative tests. Constant coughing and pain caused by coughing. I have a sore throat from coughing, not an actual sore throat.

My friend was at a work conference all day Saturday and mixed with lots of people. She said several at her hobby group had similar thing and she's probably picked it up and given it to me.

I could have sworn it would be covid. But I am sick of it now.

I think all the masks, distancing, washing our hands, hand gel and everything has lowered our natural resistance to bugs.

You may have the Adenovirus?

ValerieCupcake · 17/04/2022 10:46

@bebarkered

You may have the Adenovirus?
I had never heard of this! Looked it up. Yes, I think this is what I have.

It certainly sounds like it. I had it for weeks, the coughing day and night was horrendous

Gingernaut · 18/04/2022 04:00

I'm asthmatic.

The cough is beyond horrible. A wheezing, whistling cough which won't stop once it's started.

Multiple tests from different LFT kits are showing negative, but I've strained my side with the constant coughing.

Gingernaut · 18/04/2022 23:51

Coughing like crazy and have pulled something in my back and sides.

This is awful. I've called in sick for tomorrow, but don't see myself being able to work Wednesday either.

Peaness · 19/04/2022 00:08

Oh same Sad Awful cough and pain from it too, keeping me awake at night.
I've have had an awful upset stomach today too which fits. I guess we've got no immunity to bugs right now.

TippledPink · 19/04/2022 01:02

OH has given me a cold bug thing, woke up this morning all blocked up and now my chest is achy. He has an annoying cough, I haven't got that just yet. Really don't want to be ill!

Gingernaut · 19/04/2022 04:46

I've been coughing solidly since 2am.

I'm sore and exhausted.

Gingernaut · 19/04/2022 14:08

I've coughed so hard, I've thrown up and I've sneezed so hard and so often, that I'm blowing bloody snot bubbles.

I haven't felt this bad for years

PlayDohDots · 19/04/2022 14:25

Green gunge means there's bacteria involved, although it can often be a bacterial infection on top of a viral one. We had this all through the Easter holidays and DH (doctor) got himself antibiotics and steroids from a foreign pharmacy. He swears it worked but I honestly didn't see a big difference between both our illnesses. Definitely not covid though as he had it 2 months ago and the chances of reinfection within such a short time is virtually impossible. We both also tested negative though it's awkward AF to be out and about with a cough right now.

Gingernaut · 19/04/2022 15:33

No green gunge yet.

Just blood bubbles from all the headbanger sneezing.

DeyHuggee · 19/04/2022 15:41

Eurgh I had something similar, was bloody horrible. Couldn't breathe properly for a fortnight- it felt so relentless, lots of honey and hot water, steaming and a humidifier helped. Also had 2 courses of antibiotics but they didn't help (I went to the doctors as my oxygen levels dipped and they listening to my chest and prescribed them I didn't ask for them before anyone says anything about antibiotics). A month later I still don't feel quite right, some days I'm okay and others even going up the stairs leaves me a bit breathless, they won't do anything unless it goes on for another 2 months. Tested for covid and were all negative, seems to be a lot of other savage things emerging, probably our lockdown ridden immune systems aren't helping.

ludocris · 20/04/2022 09:06

I wonder if I now have the same. Horrid cold virus, if not flu. The worst is the cough. Usually I don't suffer too badly with coughs - I'm more of a sore throat girl, but the cough is horrid. Very sore airways and frequently feel reluctant to breathe deeply for fear of pain and further coughing. Also have sore mouth, throat, ears, bunged up nose and slightly dodgy tummy.

Gingernaut · 20/04/2022 21:00

I've been coughing so hard and for so long, I've fucked my back, abdominal muscles and my left chest muscles.

I've got a banging headache - when I need to cough, I don't know which bit to grab first.

I've huffed more Ventolin in these past three days, than I've used these past three years.

Fuck's sake.

Gingernaut · 21/04/2022 07:26

On the plus side, to soothe my raging sore throat, I've had ice cream and frozen fruit for breakfast. 🍧

InflagranteDelicto · 21/04/2022 07:29

Just getting over this. Pulled all my stomach muscles and like pp, don't know which bit to grab first. To top it all, I've now no chance of not peeing myself when I cough because I've pulled my pelvic floor a bit and have been bizarrely spotting since I developed it too

Akite · 21/04/2022 07:31

I've had exactly the same over the holidays! Raging sore throat for the first two days, so painful I was in tears. Then that completely went and have just been left with cough/wheezing/breathlessness. I've pulled muscles in my back with it. It's been just over a week and I managed to be out of bed for a whole day. Could have sworn it'd be covid, I'd been repeatedly exposed the week before, but have had multiple negative tests.

jeffersonsam · 21/04/2022 13:42

My small advice is don't panic about cold and chest infection. Be cool and calm. Take hot water and bath in warm water. Try to avoid cold drink items and take some hot chicken or veg soup. This will helps to reduce your cold. If you have continue cold and chest pain more than a week, then meet your doctor or health care expert.

Gingernaut · 25/04/2022 13:39

Still coughing.

Ears are bungled up and taste and smell are gone.

I've cleared the freezer of the last of the Cajun spiced onion rings and didn't taste a thing, even though my tongue was on fire with the spiciness.

Still testing negative for Covid.

ValerieCupcake · 25/04/2022 13:55

Glad everyone is recovering. I am back at work today. Still coughing, but just a cough. All the coughing made me p**s my pants which was embarrassing. Thought I would need Tena Lady. @Gingernaut I have asthma too. I need to top up my inhalers and I have used them so often.

Tested negative for covid 4 times.

The tiredness is horrid though. I have no energy and feel weepy, too.

Feel better soon everyone.

Akite · 25/04/2022 21:22

I'm just about starting to fee better today, still coughing and hoarse voice but not as tired as I have been. Definitely not covid but felt very similar to my covid experience!

Efortyjive · 25/04/2022 21:25

I've had this for 6 weeks now, it's horrible. I'm finding sinus rinses are helping although they're bloody gross!

Moppincraxy · 25/04/2022 21:30

My DC had this. I have never known of such constant coughing before! Like every 30 seconds every waking hour.

Gingernaut · 26/04/2022 20:14

My cough is subsiding, as long as I don't try to speak, I'm fine.

I have a snotty nose, though.

I've started blowing my nose in my sleep and twice in two days I've woken up with green slime running out of my nose.

I'm 54 FGS, not some 3 year old snot monster.

Gingernaut · 28/04/2022 06:39

Still coughing when I exert myself or speak and still snotty.

I've been signed off sick until Tuesday.

I'm so embarrassed. It's definitely not flu, but it's completely floored me.
