Thyroid goitre

Hi. So this is my 1st time posting so please excuse me if I do it wrong in someway.

I'm after some advice and shared experiences.
I have a very noticeable lump in my throat. Went drs who told me it was a Goitre and was very big for a 1st visit . She took bloods for a thyroid test and said she would be referring me for a ultrasound asap !

I have recently had a baby 7months ago.
I have felt exhausted and not felt right for months, which I just put down to being a new mum with 3 other young children to care for .
Sleep doesn't make me feel any better and never feel refreshed.

It's scared the life out of me as I've googled and cancer keeps popping up.

Will get blood test results Tuesday (damn bank holiday weekend!)
Driving me crazy with worry

Anyone been through this?

Thanks 🙏

Please try not to worry. I have an underactive thyroid. One of the symptoms can be a goitre - which is basically an enlarged thyroid which is working overtime to try and produce thyroxine. At diagnosis my thyroid was not enlarged.

My (now 14yo) son also has this. At diagnosis he did have a goitre (when he looked up you could see the outline of a bow-tie shaped lump). He was referred for an ultrasound - it was just enlarged - nothing untoward (yes they were checking for cancer - nothing there). Once he started on levothyroxine it shrank back.

They are checking just to be sure. If (unlikely) it is cancer, it is removable - thy just take your thyroid out (which isn't working anyway).

Whatever the situation I am guessing you will be/have been prescribed thyroxine which will help the tiredness, dry skin, coldness, bone-weary exhaustion. I hope you feel "normal" soon. You probably do not realise quite how crap you are feeling - as it creeps up so gradually you have probably forgotten what normal is.

@SkoolShoes
Thankyou for your reply.
Glad you and your son are good now.

I haven't been put in any meds as of yet.
Roll on Tuesday for blood results.

More likely to just be a goitre than cancer. Chase up that GP!
