Any experts on what ear drum looks like?

So I bought one of those camera thingys to look inside your ears.
I’ve had problems with my ears since I was a child .
Recently my ear feels slightly blocked which i assumed was ear wax but I’ve attached photo of what I think is my ear drum and there doesn’t seem to be much wax there so unsure why I’m not hearing properly.

If someone could look at photo and tell me if this is my eardrum and if it looks normal

That looks like a massive ball of very old wax to me, but I'm not a medical/ENT person so could be wrong.

OP, why don't you book yourself in for a hearing test? They might be ablento take a proper look for you and figure it out what it is. If it's wax, then you may need your ears cleaned out properly or perhaps just some eardrops to help dissolve the wax.

You can Google a healthy ear drum, it looks pink and smooth…like the inside of a shell. It definitely looks like there’s something in yours. Have you tried using olive oil to loosen things up?

I also have one of those cameras (soooo addictive) and can tell you it doesnt look like an infected ear., looks like wax. Can highly recommend microsuction.

If you look up videos of people who are having wax removed from their ears (I do not do this daily on TikTok honestly)
You will see the eardrum is sort of clear whitish/ grey when there is no wax present (although not sure what a 'normal' amount of wax looks like, but it looks like it might be blocked)

Looks like something in your ear! Either old ear was or a seed/bead.

You can't see your eardrum at all, it would look an opaque pale pink.

You've got a blockage there, probably wax. It's no wonder you're not hearing properly.

NB: I'm not medical, but my children have a long history of ear problems so the otoscope was in frequent use in our house

Hi thanks for replies so I was looking again today and attached another photo which I think is clearer,I’m not convinced it is wax as I see a pink tinge of colour on it!

It’s not your eardrum. It’s wax or some other blockage. Heartofglass has posted a photo of an eardrum… as you’ll see, it looks nothing like your photos

It's 100% wax. It may only be a very thin coating. Are you Asian? Or of Asian descent? They have a darker ear wax than those of European descent. My son's ear drum looks like that sometimes. He is half Chinese and gets quite waxy ears. (Which I long to pick for hours but apparently he think that is weird!!!)

It could well be your eardrum, the lighting looks crap and sometimes it can look dark like that if you don't have a bright enough light. If you've had lots of scarring on your ear drum from infections etc then it will be dull in appearance compared to the pictures PPs have posted.

Equally you could have fluid in the middle ear which also makes the eardrum appear dark and will affect your hearing. Best to book in to Boots or Specsavers (appointments are free) and let them look in your ears with decent equipment.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I think it is your ear drum, just not very clear as the light isn't very bright. Ear wax wouldn't 'shine' in any places. It's probably a bit dull looking, maybe due to fluid behind it. Get it checked properly if you are worried but I don't think you have a wax problem.

That is a big lump of wax with some dead skin on the right hand side.
