Pain under right rib, gallbladder?

MyLifeNow20 · 14/04/2022 22:19

Hi everyone.
I have had this pain on and off for a while now, very very uncomfortable mainly after I have eaten (today was lunch, tiger loaf bread with butter and ham and cheese) not a healthy lunch but it set me off. Most of the day this awful pain under ribs and if i push it its much worse, goes into my back too.
I did do a workout last night so a lot more achy than I normally am but I can still feel it. It eases when I stand up or lay down.
I had gallbladder poloyps when I was pregnant 7 years ago and was in a and e. I dont know if it is something similar.
Has anyone else had similar pains?

I am not a doctor, but it could well be. I get terrible pains under my bpttom right rib. Finding out your trigger foods helps. For me, its chocolate and cheese. I was up last night being sick, which tends to happen when I have overdone it (about once a year, possibly).

PAFMO · 15/04/2022 15:29

Sounds like it.
Fat triggers it.

NarcKid · 15/04/2022 19:27

Sounds like gallbladder to me. I am waiting for mine to come out. An ultrasound will reveal if it is.

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 15/04/2022 19:33

Suffered with this for years - even had the ambulance called out once, but even in A&E they didn't know what it was. I though it was wind or indigestion. Eventually I went to my GP who diagnosed gall bladder problems straight away, sent me for a scan and very soon after I had it removed and have been fine ever since. Wish I had gone much sooner.

MyLifeNow20 · 15/04/2022 20:23

Thanks everyone.
Ive not had it at all today but then I havent had cheese. Think I will go to doctors next week

This is me, I've been diagnosed with a polyp but no stones. Is your discomfort pretty consrant? Any other symptoms?

BettyOBarley · 15/04/2022 20:35

Yes sounds like gallbladder to me (I had mine removed 10 years ago). Definitely go see the GP sooner rather than later as the waiting lists will be long for it removing and you don't want it getting much worse as it's really not nice.
Buscopan helped with my pains.

MyLifeNow20 · 15/04/2022 22:00

So yesterday my pain started at 12pm and continued pretty much all day.
Today nothing!
Sometimes its just triggered by sitting too much, for instance if we have lunch or dinner at family houses, my back was so bad I had to take paracetemol.

Sounds like it, yes. Try taking buscopan and see if that helps.

anfieldgal · 16/04/2022 12:53

@MyLifeNow20 how are you today mylife? Mine were all similar symptoms but seems to have progressed to quite a bit worse over last month. GP thinks gallstones, bloods done, waiting for scan but Easter got in the way. Can't eat much without bloating and pain. Good luck anyway.

ilkleymoorbartat · 16/04/2022 13:33

@MyLifeNow20 do you have any other symptoms?

MyLifeNow20 · 16/04/2022 21:07

I dont really have any other symptoms.
I have been ok all day, had chicken salad and new potatoes for dinner. x

ilkleymoorbartat · 25/05/2022 21:53

How are you doing @MyLifeNow20 has your pain disappeared?

MyLifeNow20 · 25/05/2022 22:26

Hi everyone.
It is still very much on and off. Havent had it for a few days. Havent had tiger bread since though and feel much better. It just seems to be hit and miss

Have you had any gallbladder tests? Mine comes and goes too, but is also accompanied by wind and stomach gurgling. I've just had 5 weeks of nothing and now it's back again. I'm on a pretty low fat diet, apart from a hit of milk in tea. And nothing was different during those 5 weeks. It's so frustrating.

Am waiting for a gastro appointment.

Kittykat93 · 26/05/2022 22:16

Most likely gallbladder, but keep a close eye on any symptoms especially if they get worse. If something is up with the pancreas it can cause very similar symptoms.

bippityboppity87 · 26/05/2022 22:23

I've been having the exact same thing for about 8 years. Under my ribs, right hand side. Might not have the pain for months, then suddenly without warning, I feel like I've been stabbed by a knife in my side. Really painful and comes in waves, can last hours or days. Like contractions . Takes my breathe away

I had ultra scan and was told my gallbladder, kidneys and liver are fine. So now I'm back at square one Sad

MyLifeNow20 · 03/06/2022 23:45

Tonight has been a bad night. Went to my friends house for drinks and the pain had started even before the first drink. (I did have a burger for dinner)
The pain has carried on all night, put on a brave face, 6pm- now, 11.45pm and am sat with ice block on my ribs.

@MyLifeNow20 have you got one of those wheat-filled heat pads you can put in the microwave? I found heat was the best thing to deal with the gallbladder pain, rather than cold. Painkillers did absolutely nothing for me but the doctor suggested I try Buscopan for the cramps and it did seem to help a little. I also took digestive enzymes (you can get them from Holland & Barrett) with each meal and they seemed to help a bit, too. This is on the assumption it is your gallbladder but it does sound like it.

GrandRapids · 04/06/2022 17:49

I also have this. A scan of my gall bladder revealed two tiny polyps which they said couldn't possibly be causing the pain. My liver/pancreas looks fine.

I can also be pain free for months followed by a bad flare up which can also last for months. I also have awful pain in my back.

Mine doesn't seem massively affected by food either.

I was diagnosed with abdominal adhesions a few years ago so mine may be linked to that?

Same here bippityboppity87, although my scan was a couple of weeks after the flare up so I wondered if the evidence had gone.

@MyLifeNow20 have you tried a really hot hot water bottle to ease the pain as I found that was the only thing that worked?

ilkleymoorbartat · 04/06/2022 18:33

Same her @GrandRapids
I have a tiny polyp with is supposedly asymptomatic. I have weeks of it be mostly be clear (with perhaps the odd niggle) to it flaring up massively and accompanied by other gastro symptoms like gurgling stomach and funny bowel movements. Frustrating. Bloods all fine.

Entschuldigung · 04/06/2022 18:44

I've had this for nearly 4 years. Not exactly painful for me but feels like a big, tender swollen area after eating although there's nothing that can be felt which always surprises me. Had a scan about 3 years ago but was told all was fine so haven't done anything about it since although it really bothers me.
