Abnormal Liver Function Tests

I recently had some liver function tests which came back as showing raised ALT and AST. I have abstained from alcohol since finding out 2 and a half weeks ago and have to do a retest this afternoon. Does anyone have any experience of how long these enzymes take to lower?

About one-third of people with elevated liver enzymes will have normal liver enzyme levels after two to four weeks

Hopefully the levels will have improved for you.

Yea

I had raised levels after a very drunken weekend admittedly

Two months later - normal all the way

Good luck

Hi op I know this is a couple of months old now but I'm in the same situation and really worried . What happened in the end? Hope all is okay

The last time I had them checked in June they were back in normal range. ALT started at 40 in March went to 43 end March, was 45 start of May then back down to 34 in June. I was told I had a fatty liver and have since lost weight, been eating healthier, don't drink alcohol as much and do more exercise so I think all that has helped. My AST was back in normal range by the end of March.

Thank you for replying that doesn't sound like too bad a result. I definitely need to change my life style and drink less too! Just hope it's not too late Blush

I have slightly raised AST levels and have had for years. The thing is, I am very healthy. BMI of 21, good fat %. I eat very healthily, exercise every day and don't drink any alcohol at all. It's a bit of a mystery!
