hello

i was washing my 2 year sons hair tonight and noticed that at the back of his skull it looked and felt like it had got quite a big bump on it (back bottom right) and then a smaller bump (back bottom left). I then felt my 1 years old head and my head and ours felt flat in comparison. He seems fine in himself but just thought that it seemed swollen in comparison with 1 year old and my head. what do you think it is and would you go to doctor. not sure how long it has been there as husband normally does bath/wash hair.

thank you in advance!! foxy

Have you asked your husband if it feels the same as normal to him? Some babies do have quite lumpy heads - did he have much hair when he was born as it can be hard to see the shape of the head unless they are pretty bald? If your husband doesn't know and you're worried then go and have a chat with your GP - though I'm sure it's nothing.

I've read about a few people on here who have had this and it's turned out to be swollen glands (due to virus/infection). I would prob go to doc to get it checked out, but I'm somewhat neurotic

husband is away at the moment but will speak to him, think might get it checked to be sure. thank you

more than likely swollen glands, my baby has had them more or less permanently from a few weeks old, apparently die to having excema. Dr said very common and not to worry. Still have them checked though.

Me and dp are sitting feeling our heads, and both our 'right backs' are a wee bit bigger and more bony than the other side'
Dunno if this helps as we are adults.

Could be the external occipital protruberance (bony bit where the neck ligaments attach so you can nod you head). People are all different and some have larger ones than others and they are not symmetrical. I have seen GP's refer people for xrays to find out what the lump was and you'd think they would have known!
