Hi just wondering if anyone has had high cal protection levels I had today end stool sample of last week as I’ve been having bowel problems this all happened after I had my baby via c section 14 weeks ago my bowels would be normal one day then the next Diarrhea with blood and I’ve also had a lot bloody mucus sometimes it can be clear sometimes it can be white sorry TMI!
I just had a message today from my GP saying hi please can you book appointment to speak to me about your results so I got all panicky as I’m so worried incase it’s anything bad and the receptionist said the levels of the calprotectin is meant to be between 0-100 and mine 150
But I can’t get a appointment with my GP until 3rd may as he’s fully booked so I’ve now got to contact the doctors first thing tomorrow 8am to try and get another doctor to speak to me about my results i did have blood tests done which all came back normal but my liver count was slightly raised but I had covid so he thinks the covid could of caused my liver count to raise abit
Thank you for reading

150 is slightly high. All it measures is an infection in your system, so hopefully it can be easily sorted. DS has IBD so he has this test regularly. His results are over 6000 when unwell, so you are well off that level!

Lo12345 · 12/04/2022 18:58

@turkeyboots thank you I’m just worried incase I have colon cancer I know it’s abit dramatic me thinking this but I’m so worried the receptionist worried me more 🤦🏻‍♀️ Sorry to hear about you son x

I've got Crohn's disease and I've had calprotectin levels in the many thousands before. Don't be too alarmed by it. Hope you get some answers and feel better soon.

Lo12345 · 12/04/2022 19:22

@BobbinThreadbare123 yeah I’m trying to stay calm just that’ I’ve had change in bowel movement recently with bloody mucus and diarrhea (sorry)
And then this comes back high probably feel okay once I speak to the doctor tomorrow

turkeyboots · 12/04/2022 19:29

Hope they are reassuring. They might want you to have some tests to ensure all is OK though.

Lo12345 · 12/04/2022 19:43

@turkeyboots yeah think they mentioned last week a colonoscopy but I’ll see what they say tomorrow it’s the not known that worries me more than anything we’ll suppose it does with everyone

150 is normal, maybe top of the middle end for normal. I have IBD and my levels have been 8000 when I have been very ill.

You don't have colon cancer. You are likely still slightly inflamed from c section, etc.

I don't want to sound mean, but this isn't something you need to be worrying about. If you've had a lot of meds on the back of your C section, this can interfere with colon health.

Lo12345 · 12/04/2022 20:25

@ncforinkhelp yeah I know it’s just because every time I eat I get the worst stomach ache and I have to go the toilet plus seeing blood and having bloody mucus has made me worried and I think it was the receptionist that’s made me worry today more than anything

Sorry for late reply but did you ever find out what it was ?
I done a stool recently and while no traces of blood found my calprotectin levels were 270. Blood tests were all fine. My iron is ok but I did have mild iron deficiency anemia when pregnant. I only notice blood if I get a haemorrhoid. I did also just come back from Egypt a few weeks ago and had bad stomach and diarrhoea so wondering if that’s why it’s high. I’m not celiac either.

Lo12345 · 30/12/2023 09:50

@Jadejack hiya hope your okay I have replied to your last post on the other thread x

Hi thank you 😊
not sure which thread as I can’t see your name on the other ones, is it different ?

Lo12345 · 30/12/2023 21:20

@Jadejack if might be 🤦🏻‍♀️ sorry alls I said was I wouldn’t worry about it to much when they first done mine they was 157 then 187 and now they are 655 I’m still waiting for a colonoscopy all my symptoms disappeared for 10 months and now they have returned again my bowels went back to normal but they’ve gone crazy again

my doctor said they only do calprotectin test when they indicate IBD like chrons or colits
I have got a lot of symptoms of ibd though like urgency blood constipation mucus and so much more my partner went to Egypt few years ago and he said his bowels were a mess after coming back from there see if your bowels calm down because it may just be down to that xx

Oh yes I saw your message on the other thread , it was just because name was different lol
This would have been my third trip to Egypt and twice Iv ended up with bowel issues afterwards. My partner swears his bowels have never been the same since and at current he is also suffering a fair amount with his stomach.
My 3 young children had bad guts for almost 3 weeks after returning from holiday. ( may rethink going back to Egypt again)
I had a normal stool sample back in March so it seems to me that Egypt could possibly be the culprit but I could be wrong. Either that or IBS?
my bloods (FBC) were fine and no blood detected in sample just elevated calprotectin at 270!
I suffer really bad with health anxiety so have really got myself worked up but again probably over nothing as always🫣x

Lo12345 · 31/12/2023 09:14

@Jadejack I suffer with helath anxiety too so I know how you feel it’s awful yea all my bloods were fine and have been it’s only my calpro that’s elevated 🤦🏻‍♀️ this all started after I had my second c section before that my bowels have always been absolutely fine!
they did say after having baby’s things like this can happen so much has happened after having kids 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️!
try and not worry mine have been elevated for 18 + months now and I still don’t know what’s wrong hopefully I’ll find out soon .

it could just be from going over to Egypt my partner been there said the same happened to him and his mum and sister go there twice a year and they said the same there bowels are awful for a long time after coming back from there so hopefully it’s just that you will no more once you repeat your calpro test again in 2 weeks I’m sure you’ll be fine but don’t worry about it being anything serious ….
if it’s anything it will be IBD and I have heard ibs can slightly raise calpro

xx

To be honest this makes complete sense. Iv had 3 children in the last 5 years. My recent being born in may this year. I had a natural birth but I lost a lot of blood due to placenta getting stuck and was rushed into theatre to have a manual removal,I was also induced and had the balloon catheter as well.
I was very anaemic and ill for a week afterwards and was sent home to inject myself for 10 days with blood thinners.
But yes I suppose it could be from pregnancy.
yes I honestly don’t know why we keep going back to Egypt lol
thank you for the reassurance 😊 has helped me calm down abit xx

Lo12345 · 10/03/2024 10:46

@Jadejack hi how are you now ? My issues are still continuing so I’m now booked in for colonoscopy 26th March x

OP posts:
Jadejack · 10/03/2024 14:58

I’m well thank you, I was sent for an MRI of my small intestines to see if I had hidden crohns etc and it came back clear. They never did a colonoscopy on me. They have basically put it down to IBS.
before I had my MRI they did repeat my calprotectin test which had gone down from 275 to 211. So it had dropped but not massively hence having the MRI. I’d also had an abdominal ultrasound and full bloods which were all normal. I have a follow up in August for blood tests and review to see how I’m getting on. They have put me on what’s called a fod map because certain foods trigger me.
good luck with your colonoscopy, hope you get some answers. It’s so easy for your mind to wonder and my head was all over the place because of my health anxiety x

Lifelifelife21 · 28/01/2026 22:13

Hi both, did you ever find out what the issue was?
I have been having digestive issues since giving birth 4 months ago including blood. Fit test was ok but calprotectin was 166. They’ve suggested we repeat it in 2-4 weeks.

What is the link between this and pregnancy? How does it cause this?

Mrsworried1 · 30/01/2026 11:57

Hi just joining in with the chat. Had bloody diarreah about 7 weeks ago, GP did bacterial stool test which came back ok so suggested viral gastro-enteritis. Symptoms continued such as sensitive tummy, loose stools, so agreed to another stool test for calprotectin this time. It’s come back 170 I’m super worried it could be cancer :( told to repeat in 4 weeks so I’ll basically be worried for at least another month…
