Odd feeling in back/spine

Can’t find anything similar with a Google search 🙄 (I know).

For a few months I have this off feeling of being poked in the back/ pressure feeling (mid back on the spine/ slightly left side). Doesn’t hurt at all and sometimes I forget about until I sit back and then it feels like something is poking me.

I have monthly massages and my lady said that it doesn’t feel muscular (or rather no reason she can feel that would need ironing out).

Anyone else had this?

It is possibly damage to a disc, I have something very similar, a dull ache on the right hand side of my spine below my shoulder blades. I've lived with it for years now, it comes and goes and is getting very slowly more uncomfortable as I get older. I would go to your GP, the first step would be x-ray then a scan, do you have private health care? If it gets particularly painful and you get any numbness in your arms or legs that significantly effects everyday life it may ultimately need surgery.

@Daftasabroom thanks for replying, sorry to hear you have the same.
I don’t have private insurance but could possible pay private for investigations, I was considering an osteopath to have a look? Do you think that would be worthwhile?

Will book for the GP to and see what suggest they. Had been reluctant because it doesn’t hurt just now uncomfortable.

I would start with your GP they will probably want to rule a few things out. An osteopath or chiropractor will be able to correct imbalances in the short term but when everything is straightened out a physio therapist may be best placed to keep you in check. Most of us have back issues at some point.

@Daftasabroom thank you, will report back if I get to the bottom of it ☺️

This can also be stomach acid related. Is it worse when your stomach is empty? Try eating it drinking milk, it taking anti indigestion tablets and see if it helps the nudging feeling.

Narwhalelife · 09/04/2022 21:18

@Felicity42 thank you! I do have a bit of this right now (cheap vape juice 🙄) but working shifts so couldn’t get to the vape shop! Maybe this is it.

Do you have this sometimes?

I have gastritis (stomach inflammation) on and off. I take omeprazole and that keeps it at bay. If I don't take it I get some gnawing pain left under ribs and then the peculiar nudging sensation in my back occasionally.

Narwhalelife · 10/04/2022 14:10

That’s exactly what i have with the left rib pain too. I was prescribed omeprazole before but GP told me to only take it for 28 days. That was last year. So maybe il go back and ask if I need it again!

I had something similar for a year, felt like I was being picked with a sharp pin on a very specific place on the right hand side of my spine. It was during lockdown so I didn't think it was important enough to get seen. It went away after a year and I still don't know what it was!

Narwhalelife · 10/04/2022 16:35

@Moppincraxy interesting, I’m wondering if working from home during the lockdowns (and continue to do so) has just completely buggered up my posture 😫🤦‍♀️

@Narwhalelife hi just came across your thread as I have the same sensation for the last couple of months. Did you find out what the cause was? Thank you

Lotstarry · 23/03/2025 00:03
