I usually keep it at home for sore throats and colds, then take it. These days I am fasting so taking about a teaspoon every morning, as the fructose is released gradually over the day, so it makes the fasting easier, by keeping you full for longer.

However, I am confused which one to buy, the ones on Holland and Barret only have a MGO number, no UMF. The one I previously brought was this one, which showed both UMF and MGO: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ZFQWKC0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Do I need to look at UMF or MGO for it to be an active real honey?

Also I have been taking the 20+ UMF one without diluting it, is that safe to take like this? daily these days I was taking it, but realise it might be too strong to take without doctors advice and maybe should I stick to the 10 UMF? for daily use?

UMF is a quality marker the grade 20UMF is the equivalant to anything higher than an 830MGO in Holland & Barrett.

Now the new New Zealand government rules are published, there is less risk of challenges of active Manuka. I would still avoid some of the companies that appeared in the grocer/daily mail articles. from Holland and Barrett I would buy Manuka Lab, this company also supply Melora www.melora.co.uk which is UMF grade, both are made on the same production line.

I would position this slightly differently, what is used in scientific studies, that is the MGO 300 / UMF10+, usually that should suffice.

The higher grades are fabulous for when you now people around you may be ill or you I use the higher grade just before my period, to assist with bloating.
