Back pain help

I woke up yesterday with extremely sore lower back. It feels like a band across my hips. To get out of bed/up from a chair I have to drop down onto my knees and then pull myself up on furniture. I can walk, slowly but any step up (stair gate) is really agonising. If I lean back even slightly walking it's also agonising. I'm not trying to lean back but it's when I seem to have walked too fast.

I've been taking co-codamol, using ice pack. Is there anything else I can do I'm really struggling

First of all check the symptom list for Cauda Equina syndrome, which is a medical emergency. If in any doubt, go to A&E, but in any case it’s probably a good idea to get checked over today by GP or walk on because of the sudden onset:

Thank you.
I managed to get a phone appointment and I have a prescription for Naproxen and a stomach protector. They also explained about Cauda Equina and what to watch for.

I hope the naproxen helps. Back pain is hell. Heat also helps me. Hot water bottle or similar.

Thank you. The nurse said if I'm no better in 2 weeks they'll refer me to physio. I really cannot function like this for 2 weeks so I'm hoping it does the trick!

The other cheap and easy trick which every physio you ever meet will recommend for lower back pain anyway (if you get that far) is to buy a large inflatable yoga/gym ball (75 or 85cm one) and inflate it not quite full and sit on that and sort of gyrate a bit, in circles, back and forth, side to side. Might be worth a go.

I do feel for you. It’s such a shock when it first starts.

Thanks I'll give anything a try as the current situation is just unbearable.
