last night ds1 hurt his foot/ankle. he refused to put any weight on it all evening, but it wasn't swollen or bruised at all.
he slept relatively ok, though woke once in the night and cried that it hurt. however, he does sometimes wake at night anyway, so could have just been crying about it because it was the last thing he remembered rather than because it actually hur iyswim?
anyway, this morning he still won't bear weight on it at all but I don't know if that's because it still hurts or because he's having fun being the patient lol
it still is not swollen or bruised at all. can you hurt yourself seriously without it showing on the outside? should I leave him to it or get someone to take a look?

do you ahve a minor injuries clinic near you? its better than A&E for htis type of thing - wont have to wait so long for xray etc

id definitely take him. no doubt about it

Tiggiwinkle · 08/01/2008 10:17

If he will not weight bear at all, it definitely should be looked at I think.

yes, we have an nhs walk-in centre.
will take him when I've fed ds2. just wanted some reassurance that i'm not overreacting I think, so thank you

Our local nhs walk-in does not have xray facilities so if yours is the same you may end up going to a and e anyway.
I would give them a ring first to see whether they advise you to go straight there.

fingerwoman · 08/01/2008 10:36

am pretty sure ours does, and thankfully it's just down the road as well so not too far to go anyway.

How did you get on fingerwoman?

fingerwoman · 08/01/2008 16:06

well, nothing showed up on the x-rays but they said if he still won't put any weight on it tomorrow then to go back.
don't think they quite knew what it was lol

Is he still not using it? How old is he, by the way?

fingerwoman · 10/01/2008 18:04

he is nearly 3. persuaded him to walk on it a bit which he is doing now, but still limping. very odd.

Did you actually see hime injuring his foot/ankle?
I just ask cos my ds was diagnosed with an 'irritable hip' when he was about 4yrs old. It came on gradually and resulted in him limping around and not weight bearing on it. Basically what happens is that if they have had an infection like a heavy headcold, the virus can travel to the hip joint and irritate it, causing pain. He was treated with antibiotics and anti inflamatories and recovered after a few days.
Might be something to consider if you didn't actually see anu injury occuring.
