Vitamin D deficiency symptoms?

I have been feeling awful! can these all be symptoms as a result of Vit D deficiency?!

I started off feeling more tired than usual around 3 weeks ago and my eyes constantly felt uncomfortable so got them checked and all fine. I then had vertigo about 2 weeks ago which lasted for about a week and I thought I was feeling better after that but I started feeling so exhausted the past few days! I literally feel like my brain is being starved of something and my eyes are so painful like they are so tired, dry and irritated. I get plenty of sleep even with a 6 month old but I’m really struggling to get through the day

Had bloods checked and everything is fine but my Vitamin D levels are very low. Been told to take D3 25000units supplements once a week but how long will these take to work?? and has anyone else experienced symptoms like these, if so is there anything else I can do to make myself feel a bit better?

I had this last year. Reminds me I should take my maintenance dose.
I had 6 weeks of those 25000 tablets and now 1000iu daily. It did help a bit. I thought of it as giving me a bit of a break from the exhaustion so I had energy to help myself in other ways. You don't have anything to lose from trying it - hope it helps.

@NotMeNoNo thank you for replying, I took my first supplement a few days ago but not felt any improvement so far with regards to exhaustion but fingers crossed it helps soon!

In need of some positivity 😕
It’s now the 4th week of taking supplements and I am seeing slight improvements but the brain fog is really getting me down. Can anyone advise how long it may take for it to improve? I just want to be able to think clearly again, everything just seems so overwhelming

Beccaaaaa · 15/05/2022 21:05

hey @anfieldgal thanks for asking! things have definitely improved but still not 100%, just been struggling with one thing after another unfortunately. Hoping after a bit more time I will feel like me again 😌 hope you’re well x

@Beccaaaaa My main symptoms were fatigue, depression and bone pain, especially in my wrists, ankles and calves. At one point I found it hard to walk for more than 5 minutes and my wrists hurt just lifting up pans and plates, that's when I went to the GP.

The huge Vit D doses they give you to treat the deficiency had a major effect on my mood and resolved all my symptoms within about 3 weeks. I can't tell you how much my mood improved, it was incredible.

Didn't have your symptoms but I had blood tests after developing alopecia. The blood tests revealed severe anaemia and severe vit D deficiency. Been taking massive doses of iron and vit D for 6 months - latest blood tests show the anaemia is resolved but am still vitamin D deficient and my alopecia has got worse in the interim. If you're worried, get your GP to do bloods and take it from there.

@PurpleSky300 that sounds awful! I found the fatigue was the worst for me, I could barely move all day. Glad to hear you felt so much better after treatment. I found the supplements have helped massively although I am still having bad days here and there feeling tired and brain fog.

@1Wanda1 Oh no! I’m sorry to hear your alopecia has got worse. I’m glad your anaemia has resolved but that’s crazy to still be vit D deficient after 6 months?
Doctors took my bloods at the start which flagged the vit D deficiency and told me to see how I feel after taking supplements for 6 weeks and to get my bloods done again after 4 months. I’m now on maintenance dose and still not feeling 100% but I guess it will take time!

Sounds as if it could be. I knew someone who was on medication that meant she had to keep out of the sun. Was told she must wear factor 50 and wear a big hat. Which she dutifully did.

Roll on a year or two and she was constantly terribly tired.
Checks showed that her Vit D levels were so low, they were practically off the scale.
