Found a lump

Hi all,

Over the weekend I found a small (just over pea size) lump in my right breast. I've not noticed it before but I do have quite lumpy boobs!

I'm breastfeeding my 5 month old so could be a blocked duct, but it doesn't hurt or anything.

Would it be a waste of time to get this checked when I'm breast feeding? It seems silly to bother the doctor about breast changes when I'm breastfeeding.

Would you wait a week or two to see if it goes away by itself?

Please don't wait, get it checked. A referral to the breast clinic takes two weeks anyway. I have had breast cancer and the earlier it's found the better. Please remember that 9/10 lumps are benign. It's more likely to be nothing than something but it's really important you get it checked asap.

Hi OP, just for a little bit of reassurance for you tonight, I had the exact same thing when breastfeeding, it turned out to be a blocked duct, massaging it whilst feeding helped to clear it. You've done the right thing getting checked out though. Good luck for tomorrow.

@Liamgallaghersparka did you get seen with yours? Did the gp say blocked duct or did they refer?

Been referred to the breast clinic but she didn't seem too worried... Just being thorough I think!

Never a waste of time and GPs never brush off a breast lump.
I'm sure it will be nothing but prepare for a long session at breast clinic as they are very thorough.

I was just examined by GP but not referred, which quite surprised me, but lump disappeared shortly afterwards.
Good luck, OP, I hope all goes well at the breast clinic, hopefully, like me, yours will be due to breastfeeding.

Please get it checked ASAP. Its much better to have peace of mind than to leave it. I've been through the (almost) worst case scenario over the last couple of years, and I can assure you all the medical staff would much, much rather see you and find out its nothing, than see you later if it is something - if that makes sense. Basically they'll never, ever flinch at you getting checked out to be on the safe side. And they're very used to seeing and checking lumpy breasts.

Really hope it turns out to be nothing.

Thanks everyone, appreciate you taking the time to reply!

They've just called with an appointment on Monday so at least it's not too long to wait. Just trying not to think about it until then, easier said than done though!
