So I'm due to get an interproximal filling between my premolar and molar next week. I've had myofascial tmjd for nearly two years now and during flares I can only eat very soft foods/liquids. My dentist said it's a small cavity and I don't have to open my jaw for the procedures but I'm so worried that it will trigger a flare or I'll be left in chronic pain after the procedure. I never used to panic about fillings etc but after spending so much time in the dentists chair trying to get the diagnosis of tmjd I've become extremely phobic, particularly of anything that can cause worsening of symptoms. Can any fellow tmj sufferers advise how they cope during dental procedures? And is it really possible to get a filling without opening your jaw? My dentist is brilliant and I do trust him but loathe to get the filling done particularly when I'm not (yet!) experiencing any pain in that tooth.
