I had terrible pain under my ribs and through to my back on Thursday, which ended with me getting a lift to A&E. they admitted me, gave me painkillers, did scans and bloods and found that I had gallstones and an infection. So I had IV antibiotics and they sent me home with advice to eat low fat foods and they would contact me to have it taken out. I had nothing to eat for over 24 hours, and by the time I left hospital I had no pain and felt ok.
I ate a couple of dry cream crackers and it was like my stomach exploded. After a few hours where paracetamol and ibuprofen didn't touch the pain, I went back to A&E. The triage nurse told me that it's normal to feel that way with cholecystitis, and that it's going to be happening until I get it removed, which can take 20 months.
I had anyone had this kind of surgery recently? How long did you wait and how did you cope? I can't see how I'm going to manage dealing with this kind of pain for so long. Right now I just want to avoid eating or drinking anything.
