Colonoscopy- how bad is it??

Hi there,

I'm booked for a colonoscopy next monday and am literally shitting myself (yeah ironic lol!) I will be literally crapping myself after taking the prep solution Grin
Can anyone who's had it done tell me what it's like? My mum said it wasn't that bad and the bit before hand is worse- will I literally be dashing to the loo like I've got food poisoning?? Sad

The gastro is positive in the fact that he doesn't suspect anything seriously wrong with me - just checking me out after being on long term antibiotics and having seriously messed up guts since November Sad. This is more to rule out any other possibilities. I am a worrier/anxious person though but trying to tell myself there's no need to worry until he's checked it out and hopefully will be all clear.

thanks!

I had Moviprep and didn’t quite finish either pack and was sick after the first . I also didn’t feel that I’d been to the loo very much but I had followed the dietary prep exactly and they didn’t have any issues seeing everything during the procedure .

Thanks for all the info/advice and hand holding. After the nausea subsided I slept a bit then had to get ready to go - made myself a coffee then realised I couldn't drink it Sad

I decided on sedation but when I got there the nurse tried to talk me out of it! Shock she said she'd rather be alert etc. but I said nope gimme all the drugs Grin

I didn't find the actual camera up the arse painful but omg the air pumped in- it was so painful. Despite the sedation I was shouting and squirming and they had to give me gas and air. Awful Sad. I think maybe I'm more sensitive due to having IBS but also maybe as I'm so petite/slight maybe my guts were smaller and stretched more compared to some? My theory anyway! The sedation wasn't that strong- I felt a little like I was drunk to start with but tbh I didn't feel that out of it at all so maybe they didn't give me much.

Afterwards again, so much pain with the trapped gas in recovery it bought tears to my eyes. The nurse was lovely and told me to just let it out but I have issues with trapped wind - always having pain from bloating Hmm so I had to go to the loo to let some out. I looked 8 months pregnant Shock. 2 trips to the loo sorted me out a bit more and the pain subsided.

And I only got offered a tea or coffee. No bloody biscuit and I was starving lol!

Ah well, all in all pretty horrid experience but the main thing is I survived and I really appreciate everytone who helped prepare me. It looked all clear and they did a few biopsies to check for microscopic colitis. Other than that looked healthy.

The toilet bit went on forever and ever it seemed but I had gas and air for the actual colonoscopy. It was OK. I was in a right state before but they were so lovely and the gas and air helped tons. Only problem is I get the giggles badly on it and was so scared to laugh in case I farted in their face from the pressure Grin
