Abnormal cervix

Went to GP with heavy periods a few months back (last year). She had a look at my cervix and saw a cyst type thing there. She wasn’t concerned but said she’d bring me back in a few weeks to see if it had changed. When I went back around 12 weeks later she found more cysts and referred me to gynae but said she didn’t think it was anything worry about. Gynae knocked it back which delayed the whole thing so gp asked another doctor to look and give a second opinion. Doctor said it all looked fine, absolutely nothing to worry about.

Gynae eventually gave me an appointment which was today. She had a look, said she didn’t see anything too worrying but said their was some erosion, something about inside cells being on the outside (??!!) and said there was a white area that she’d like to get a closer look at but said she wasn’t concerned, just wanted to be 100% sure they were not missing anything.

So I’ve been referred for a colposcopy

I had a clear smear test just after Christmas.

Should I be concerned?? This has been going on for months now, if it is something dodgy there has been a hell of a lot of time wasted …

Don’t worry, you’ve just got ectropion (formerly known as erosion), v v common and totally benign. They’ll cauterise your cervix at the colposcopy, it is uncomfortable and a bit ouchy but not really painful as such.

The white but I’m not so sure about but it could be a nabothian cyst healing, or possibly lichen sclerosis/planus, which I believe usually presents in the vulva area but may well be obscuring your cervix somewhat. Clear smear is extremely reassuring.

Please feel free to search my history if you want more detailed explanations, I always reply to these threads since my own scare last year! X
