Metronidazole metallic taste

I took a single dose of metronidazole (5 x 400mg) yesterday evening at around 6pm, to treat BV. Soon afterwards I noticed a really horrible sour/metallic taste in my mouth, which has persisted today. It seems like the taste is seeping out of my tongue! Like having a mouthful of pennies. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this/any idea how long it is likely to last? I won't be taking the medication anymore as it's designed to be given as a single dose. Really hoping it subsides quickly as it's so revolting and quite hard to bear! Luckily not feeling too bad otherwise.

I had the same thing and unfortunately I had thrush in my mouth from the medication. I had to get more meds which were dropped on my tongue to get rid of it. Keep an eye out for a coating on your tongue etc.

Ah I'm sorry, that's the last thing you need! How long after you took the medication did you develop thrush? I'm going on holiday on Saturday so a bit worried about being away from home and unable to access medical help...

It's one of the most common side effects with metronidazole. It generally takes 2 days to leave your body, so you should be ok by Thurs.
You can get oral thrush if you take any antibiotics in any format. Try not to worry about developing that OP.

yep - I've had the metallic taste each time I've had to take it.
