hello, a little advice please , these are my tsh and t4 levels. I also have very slightly low iron and slightly high cholestoral. My gp has decided to treat me for underactive thyroid with 25 levothyroxine. Im a bit puzzled by this as the numbers dont look too bad , was anyone else treated similarly. Thank you

! Serum free T4 level
10.5 pmol/L range 11.00 - 21.20pmol/L
Serum TSH level 2.55mIU/L 0.27 - 4.20mIU/L

Are you symptomatic, OP? Cold, tired, sluggish, constipated, slow pulse, hair thinning? If so, it is worth starting treatment with a modest dose of thyroxine to see if you improve. Your level is definitely a little suboptimal, and there’s little point in waiting until you feel worse, if you already have symptoms.

That looks like secondary hypothyroidism. TSH within normal range, but FT4 below range. Guidelines used to say immediate referral to endocrinologist, but now seem to be silent. GP Notebook says refer to specialist.

Your GP should not dose by TSH, but by thyroid hormones, FT4 and FT3.

25mcgs of thyroxine won't support your existing thyroid function, it will knock it out and make you feel worse.

Thyroid UK will help you find an expert.
