Abscess?

Been in awful pain last night and today.
Throbbing pain in and around a couple of my lower teeth. The gum and jaw/chin is tender to touch and painkillers ain’t really helping tbh. Can feel a lump at the bottom of the gum line.
I rung my dentist today they said no emergency appts left and that a dentist would ring me to assess. They didn’t even bother :(
Does this sound like an abscess? Obviously they aren’t open on the weekend so I’m just wondering what I can do in this situation?

Dentist showed me my X-ray he said the infection is really bad it’s gone down into the jaw bone :( explains why I’m in so much pain. Also because it’s so bad it’s affected the nerves of the nearby teeth hence why they are throbbing too. He’s prescribed some more antibiotics as they are due to finish today and said to ring back fri morn for another emergency appt if no improvement

Oh god that sounds awful op, I really hope this 2nd antibiotic does something for you, surely they can fit you in for the root canal sooner? I'm still in pain too but not as excruciating as before, I can't understand why my neighbouring teeth are hurting after the extraction, I'm on day 3 of antibiotics and I just have a feeling that this won't be the end of it and it makes me want to cry, I'm still swollen as well.

How are you now op? I'm nearly 48hrs from extraction and still in discomfort but thankfully the painkillers are actually working. I'm still swollen as well which is bugging me. I've got today and tomorrow left of a 5 day course of antibiotics.

Nogodsnomasters your other teeth will be hurting because of the bruising, they may also move slightly because there is more room & from all the injections. Try an ice pack on your jaw to see if it helps & keep up the painkillers.

Thank you Nat, I'm glad to hear there are other reasons for the neighbouring teeth to hurt than the infection has spread because it was starting to worry me that this was going to turn into another problem and me losing more teeth 🙈

Sorry only just seen this. The second lot of antibiotics have helped loads and it’s nowhere near as painful as it was. I’m trying to still eat on the left hand side as it’s still a bit tender ,

I'm so glad it's improving for you! I've finished my antibiotics on Friday evening and I'm down to taking one set of painkillers a day just to manage the discomfort which is an improvement and my swelling is now gone thank god as of yesterday.

@Nogodsnomasters sorry for jumping on this thread, but just wondering how you are now. I had a tooth extracted a week ago and am still finding things painful. I reckon you are a bit ahead of me and am interested in whether you feel better.

Hi, I'm now 9 days post extraction and yesterday was my first day of not needing to take any ibuprofen, I'm still in mild discomfort but it's not all day and I'm still eating on one side of my mouth only and being very careful when brushing my teeth.
