Can HV's give out prescriptions??

I presume not, as they are not doctors, but sommeone mentioned it on another thread.

My DS has got some small excema patches that are not getting better with my usual creams.

I'd much rather take him to my nice HV than my miserable GP, who always makes me feel like I'm fussing about nothing!

Yes some of them can but only for certain things.

Mine gave me one for something to treat DDs thrush, so yes, I think they are able to prescribe a small amount of stuff. Ring her first?

orangehead · 06/01/2008 20:30

MUMOFDJandP · 06/01/2008 20:32

pinkspottywellies · 06/01/2008 20:32

They can for some things, excema being one of them but I don't know if they all can.

MrsKittylette · 06/01/2008 20:32

Yes my HV prescibes DS excema cream, she also gave me a 'new' one when the old one wasnt working.

mine could arrange prescription but had to get a GP to sign them - she is lovely though on several occasions she has sorted out prescriptions for me then brought them round to my house later that day. She's a rare breed I think.

I think they can prescribe from the nurse practitions list (which is limited)

They might also get a doc to write out a prescription IYSWIM

woodenchair · 06/01/2008 20:41

it's not limited to the kids either, mine gave dp a prescrition for some stuff to help him stop smoking

Thanks everyone, that's fab.

I think I'll pop into baby clinic on Tuesday.

Thanks again
