Is there a virus going round?... (not covid)

Been feeling unwell for about a week off and on. First day had a temperature of 102 for a few hours/felt sick then it passed. The rest of the time/week I have a mild but constant headache, am off my food plus I have odd intermittent pains here and there which only last the odd second and just feel tired in an unwell way . I've had this a few times over the years and used to go to gp and have bloods taken but don't bother now as it always comes back normal and get told it is a viral thing. I haven't had this for a few years. I also have a cough but it's not covid as I've done a few tests here and there in the week. Dh said he has read on twitter other people moaning about something that sounds the same which wasn't covid.

The good part is that I have lost my appetite (not my taste or sense of smell).

Anyone else?

Yes of course there are other viruses going around. Many of them, all the time.

BakewellTart01 · 24/03/2022 20:35

I was told there was a flu virus circulating. I genuinely think people (myself included at times) forget there are viruses other than covid. The entire "don't do this or you will cause harm" message of the last two years has caused people to only think of one thing when any symptoms arise.

There’s always viruses going around Confused

beethecrackon24995 · 24/03/2022 20:40

Thanks peace. As for chair not sure how to respond to your response and if im really honesti can'treally be bothered to but i will say the following. If you have to ask me what I meant then my question definitely wasn't aimed at you. Hop along to the Aibu board if you get your kicks talking down to people on MN.

I've been a member for years and have always found the health boards to generally be kinder and perhaps a little more understanding. Go have a delightful evening Smile

We've all been ill recently and tested negative. I know of quite a few others who have too.
Hope you feel better soon.
I usually find people are kinder on this board, but occasionally a few lose their sense of direction when heading for the AIBU section.

There seem to be more viruses going around than is usual at this time of year. We're all catching everything we haven't had for the last two years.

Nearly all my social things in the last month have had to be postponed because someone in the group is ill.

beethecrackon24995 · 26/03/2022 22:09

rainyday & A580 thank you for your responses. My cough has got worse and has brought my asthma on (still not covid but if you cough in public everyone thinks you have it although I've been stuck at home). I really don't like these random pains that may suddenly appear. Yesterday I was in near agony with one in my rhs upper rib cage area. Gave in and took 2 ibu's which rescued me within 10 minutes and it went and hasn'tbeen back. The pain hits in weird random places for no obvious reason. Blood tests have never proved this in the past to be anything other than a virus. Really slow getting asthma meds. Friendly but young very enthusiastic pharmacist called me a few days ago asking me about 4 sheets worth of questions and was discussing different new steroid ideas compared to ventolin as a reliever. It felt more like a medical lesson and felt too unwell to chat but I didn't want to be rude. Lord knows when I'll get meds as he's still deciding what I should have. I'm currently using out of date meds....plus my peak flow monitor is buggered Grin.
Moan over (sorry....)

I have many of your symptoms and it is actually a really bad hayfever flare due to tree pollens changing up my anti-histamine is really helping.

alwaysontheloo · 27/03/2022 18:01

@beethecrackon24995 I had something similar this week. Genuinely thought I was dying at one point. On Thursday I was getting these weird burning pains inside all over, just kept appearing in my arms, neck, down my legs randomly and my skin felt almost bruised and sore but 'inside' if that makes sense. I was on my Ventolin which I never use and my salt pipe to ease my breathing and I was coughing.
Saturday I woke up feeling ok again. So bizarre

DoucheCanoe · 27/03/2022 18:06

Yes, I believe so.

9yo had a "scratchy throat", was off food and lethargic earlier in the week, teen then had the scratchy throat and I started feeling like I had a bad cold yesterday - now have the same as 9yo and feeling far worse than I did with COVID in January!

Seemingly the schools are rife with it.

beethecrackon24995 · 27/03/2022 20:00

Thanks for responses. It's a weird one. One moment I feel really unwell and then hours later not bad although the cough it pretty wretched. I find that if I'm having a tickly coughing fit I have a strepsil and sip some water. Seems to help ease the coughing

I have this right now. A really awful flu virus I think! Fever, runny nose, tickling cough fits, no taste or smell. Nausea too, insomnia, lack of appetite. Keep testing for covid but nothing. Day 4 now and I still feel really bad.

pippinsleftleg · 29/03/2022 07:40

Yes, 2 DCs had a week off school with it and now I have it. Spoke to my mum (who lives 2 hours away) and she also had it - all tested negative for Covid.

Definitely feel as bad as we did when we had Covid.
