Pelvic Ultrasound

BeachesandIcecream · 24/03/2022 18:43

Had a pelvic ultrasound today and at the end I asked if everything was ok. The woman was quite short with me and just said your doctor will have them within a week ring if you haven't had them by then. I've had ultrasounds in the past and they've always given an indication of whether or not things seem OK. Should I be worried? I'm in full on anxiety panic mode now.

It’s not their job to give you the results. I don’t think it’s unusual for them not to tell you anything.

Hopefully everything will be fine and your mind will be put to rest 💐

WeeOrcadian · 24/03/2022 18:53

Their job is to scan you, not to analyse the results.

I know it's hard but try to not catastrophise until you hear from the doctor

Catnap25 · 24/03/2022 19:12

I had this the other month- I was convinced something was wrong as she just stared at the screen and didn't say a word.
Turns out my scan was all clear but like you in other scans they have always talked me through it.

BeachesandIcecream · 24/03/2022 19:45

@Catnap25 thanks for that reassuring to know that some are just less friendly and reassuring than others

I had one a few months ago, and they said the same but maybe a bit more nicely. Mine was fine.

GettingStuffed · 24/03/2022 22:02

I had one a few weeks ago and she told me that nothing had changed from my previous one. If it's something bad the GP will contact you quickly.

Nutellaonall · 24/03/2022 22:08

The sonographer writes the report. But they don’t have full access to your medical history and don’t plan treatments. So it’s is one piece of the puzzle if you will. Whether they tell you about it depends on what they see, and on the individual sonographer. Some are more forthcoming than others. For instance I might see I’ve seen a fibroid but I might not be totally clued up on the latest treatment options. So some sonographers prefer not to say anything at all rather than get drawn into a conversation they feel they don’t have the knowledge to follow through with.

So results are back GPs receptionist called and they want to discuss along with blood results in 2 weeks...as the GP who I saw is on holiday. 2 weeks....I can't wait that long, I'm so flipping worried. What could they have seen surely if everything looked normal they would just say.

DasAlteLeid · 29/03/2022 22:21

Ring them back tomorrow and ask if someone can at least briefly outline if there are any suspected issues. It’s not right to leave you another two weeks when the results are sitting there x

DasAlteLeid · 29/03/2022 22:23

But please don’t let your imagination run wild, could be fibroids, thickened womb lining, lazy ovary, lots of things that don’t spell disaster but need discussing x

BeachesandIcecream · 29/03/2022 22:35

Thanks. My anxiety always gets the worse of me when waiting for news like this. I'm going to call them in the morning.

Yes I would just ring up in the morning, say you are now left really worried and can't wait for 2 weeks! I don't think that is fair at all.
I have had a fair few scans and I always ask at the end if they found anything and they have always told me, but they don't have to.
I no longer wait to speak to the Dr - if you sign up for the online thing where you can see your health records, you can see the basics of reports/blood tests etc when they are sent to the Dr from the hospital.

BeachesandIcecream · 29/03/2022 23:15

Ooh I keep meaning to ask for the full access I might pop in and ask for this tomorrow

OP posts:
VerandaSanta · 30/03/2022 21:53

How did you get on, OP? They definitely can't leave you hanging on like this for 2 weeks.

BeachesandIcecream · 30/03/2022 22:07

No appointments went to ask for the access showed her ID she said it was sorted and would show within a few hours. Then had a call from surgery a few hours later crapped myself it was blood results now back, but no. The receptionist forgot to get me to fill out a form for access to app so I have to go back tomorrow to fill out form and take ID again. Fingers crossed they also have appointments available tomorrow.

@BeachesandIcecream - I'm in the same situation.

The scan results are mentioned on my NHS online record but with no details. I've phoned for the results and there's a note to say I need an appointment with the GP.

No appointments now for a week - so hopefully it's nothing too urgent.

Hope yours are also nothing serious.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 31/03/2022 14:50

I’ve had two pelvic ultrasounds in the past nine months. First one the chap talked me through it, said there was nothing of concern that he could see and he could see both ovaries. Second one - not a word other than she couldn’t find left ovary. Different approach from different practitioners, but IME if there’s anything wrong they’re onto it pretty smartly. It’s always an anxious time, but you’ll kick yourself for worrying over nothing. Don’t do it to yourself.

BeachesandIcecream · 31/03/2022 15:13

So they've found adenymosis so been referred to gynae and it also picked up a fatty liver problem so more tests and more worry

Sorry to hear this but glad they're acting quickly. Hopefully referrals will come through quickly.

greyinganddecaying · 06/04/2022 11:10

@BeachesandIcecream - I've just had my scan results back and I also have a fatty liver issue picked up during my scan. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it.
