Tips for blocked nose/mouth breathing

Does anyone have any tips/advice for blocked nose relief?

I feel like I constantly have a blocked nose and a layer (of phlegm?) stuck in my throat- I have to keep on coughing to try and clear it. The coughing is worse at night and sometimes I find it so hard to breathe.

This has been going on for at least 3-4 years. I’m ok for a few days and then the blocked feeling comes back again. At least half the month I feel like this and recently it’s getting worse so I’ve had that horrible stuck throat feeling 2 nights out of the last 3.

Previously I’ve brushed it off thinking it’s just a blocked nose or blamed it on being run down dealing with kids etc. But now it’s really starting to affect me mentally especially as some nights I find it very hard to get comfortable.

I’m a mouth breather too ( apologies I know how much this is despised) and have been for as long as I can remember, so maybe I’ve had the nose problems for longer then I can remember too? I’ve just tried to see if I can actually breathe through my nose and breathing in is ok but breathing out I absolutely cannot do it through my nose at all.

I’m planning to call GP tomorrow and I’ve heard the first port of call is nasal sprays but that long term they can make the problem worse?

For it to be going on for that long I would definitely recommend medical advice, and ask if you can be referred on anywhere? Sorry, must be so awful
