Arm ache weeks after mammogram

I've got this strange arm ache, it pretty much started after my mammogram (which turned up a cancerous lump which needs to be removed).
Mostly there's a dull ache running from the top of my shoulder down the outside of my arm to the top of my wrist. If my arm is touched in certain places there's a terrible shooting pain which lasts several seconds. No usual activities hurt-carrying bags, hanging out washing and so on. I can't sleep on it though. Paracetamol and ibruprofen take the edge of the pain. I think my movement is normal except I'm careful doing things carefully in case I get the shooting pain.
The arm ache is the same side as the lump.
What is this likely to be and will it get better itself?
