Anyone with a non-hormonal coil tell me if this is normal? A bit TMI, be warned!

Got the coil put in in April. Been fine with it generally, slightly heavier periods but otherwise very happy with it.

Thing is, over the past couple of months I've noticed a few weird feelings. Around ovulation time in my cycle I get a one sided pain, which is sometimes quite acute and nothing like I experienced before I got the coil. Last month it was so bad it freaked me out to the point that I was convinced I'd become pregnant (I was conceived when mum was using a coil, it does happen). Sometimes during sex deep penetration feels quite sharply painful. Is this the coil? Or is there something wrong with me? I recently had a smear and the nurse mentioned that everything looked OK and the strings were visible. Anyone else had the same expereince?

Hi, I had a non - hormonal coil put in in October. I am still bf and haven't settled into a regular cycle yet, but have a lot of spotting (like none for about 3 days, then a couple of days with, none again for 2 days then again...) I don't know if that is normal? My very helpful nurse said I should go for a smear ( though I am not due for 1) but how can I make an appt if I never know when I am going to be bleeding??

Neither me or dh has felt anything during sex, so can't really help you there, but I believe pain could be some indication of a possible infection, which are more common when you have a coil.
