How long to wait for a chest CT scan results?

I had an x-ray in mid December and GP phoned me a week later to say there were 'shadows' on my lungs and was therefore arranging a CT scan.

After an appointment was cancelled, this happened in early February. It's now over 5 weeks since then but GP office tell me they are still waiting for the results - is this a normal wait?

No it isn't a normal wait at all. CT results are usually available within days, your practice needs to chase this up. Especially as it's such a worrying issue.
Good luck.

@FloraFoxx,
They tell me they have. Phoning the CT unit all I get is a message telling me to chase up with the referrer if it's over 3 weeks, so round in circles!

I would ring PALS in the morning. To still be waiting 5 weeks for a CT scan result after being told an xray had showed an abnormality is absolutely not ok.

I don't want to alarm you and many shadows etc can be nothing to worry about but that isn't the point it is, I bet you've had 5 weeks of sleepless nights Flowers.

So when did you have the CT scan?

The CT unit cannot give you the results. I don't know what the protocol is where you live but usually, GPs can't request chest CT scans. They refer you onto a hospital specialist, who can.

There are a couple of possibilities here: your local Trust is in disarray thus your result that should available, aren't; or they're not that concerned and you weren't a 2WW.

Hope you get news soon.

'Arranging a CT'- who arranged it? Highly likely the hospital, via a hospital consultant, who you've probably never met! (Covid). They're the ones likely to have the result.

@Fordian,

as far as I know, it was 'arranged' by the GP, at least that's what they told me on a phone call.

Contact PALS and also the practice manager of your GP surgery, the wait is not acceptable!

Contacted PALs on Friday, they have confirmed results were sent to GP 17 days after scan!
Will chase GP today.

How poor of the GP! definitely complain to the practice manager, totally unacceptable
