Wisdom tooth extraction - help!

Hi,

Sorry for the long explanation, but here goes!

For around 2 years I was having pain in my lower right wisdom tooth that was impacted. I was given a course of antibiotics and each time this took the pain away, until just after Christmas 2021. The pain became really bad and was radiating up the side of my face, cheek, and really bad around my ear. It was also really sensitive to heat, and any time I had a hot drink or food it kicked off.

In the meantime I had been on a waiting list with the NHS but was having no luck with waiting times, so had to go private. I had the tooth taken out about 10 days ago. I was given a course of amoxicillin. For the first couple days, although my jaw was sore, the toothache-like pain had disappeared. However it's slowly started creeping back and is getting worse each day. It's the exact same pain in the same place, again right up my ear!

I don't think it's dry socket as I had stitches and looked after it well and I can't see any exposed bone. Plus, the pain feels the same as it did before the tooth was taken out.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm not sure if the infection maybe didn't disappear properly or I need some stronger antibiotics? Trying to get an appointment to see my dentist but doesn't look like it'll be anytime soon!

Thank you!

I’m struggling with facial pain again and have started to get on top of it with amitriptyline. I’ve just had antibiotics with also a suspected blocked salivary gland on top of that. Sounds like you have trigeminal neuralgia or temperomandibular joint dysfunction. I went to dentist and due to see if I should replace my fillings as like you I’ve had real problems with chewing and shooting pains in face. The dentist couldn’t see anything wrong with my teeth. I suggest you go see your doctor who can give you a pain meds that will help

The dentist who extracted your wisdom tooth should see you immediately under 'aftercare'..it was only 10 days ago.
