Urgent Help!! Runny tummy - but not Novovirus!

LowFat · 05/01/2008 12:38

Dh has had a bad tummy since New Years day, we suspect from eating rehaeated chiken on pizza Because he's not been sick and no one else has a problem

Everytime he eats, he's on the loo again within an hour. He's tummy is hurting now because it's empty - and he's underweight as it is.

I've tried to get him to eat some dry toast or rich tea biscuits, but you know men.

Is Immodium any good? I will pop out to the chemist later to try any helpful recommendations.

Thanks

Imodium would only work temporarily , best thing to do it let it wor its way through the system . What is he eating/drinking ? Acidic, fatty or rich dairy foods will not help. Plain foods(soup, chicken, toast), rehydration fluids (or flattish lemonade or coke), maybe some live yogurt or yoghurt drinks, or probiotic enhanced foods/tablets.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 05/01/2008 13:01

Yes

There is a bug going, DH and I have had it. Not NV but by God is it debilitating.

Immodium and rehydration drinks worked a treat.

Oh and sleep, lots of sleep.

I spent the whole day lying on the bed yesterday, DS 6.5 had to look after himself. I kept going up and down the stairs to check on him. (I am not that slack) But at 1.00 p.m I had to ring DH and ask him to come home. He replied with pleasure, I have it too. When he came home we took it in turns to sleep an hour on an hour off. DH was back in bed at 7.00 p.m and slept until 9.30 this morning.

I waited until DS dropped off and then went to bed about 9.30 ish. I slept until 10.30.

HTH

Lizs has a point, we only took the immodium when we had been to the toilet several times, so it had probably worked its way through.

LowFat · 05/01/2008 13:03

He's trying to eat normally but as far as I can tell thats frosties for breakfast and last night pizza and chips and biscuits. I have told him to stick to plain food but he's ignoring me. He's had a hard week with the children all day every day - which he's not used to and he's in bed at the moment as I think he's completely drained.

We have to go to a party this afternoon. But I am thinking of sending him with DD and going to shop and getting him stuff to try and ease his condition.

Just had a thought. Could it be causing him pain in his back and side. As he said he puled a muscle yesterday lifting DS, but I am nw wondering if it's all related?

Take DD to the party and let him stay in bed.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 05/01/2008 13:09

DH thought he had pulled a muscle coughing but as the dose passed do did the muscle pain.

LowFat · 05/01/2008 13:10

Can't I dont drive and he wont go to the shops and get himself anything.

Has to be this way I'm afraid. I have left him sleep as much as possible.

can't he drop you off and go to shop himself ?

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 05/01/2008 13:14

But surely if you call to shops on the way to the party, then he can go home to bed.

I have to say if he turned up at my party in possession of a bad bug, I would consider it to be extremely rude.

Agree with Brie, whether you think it is food poisoning or a bug isn't really relevant to the host. Think a bit of self help is required if he wants to feel better sooner rather than later.

LowFat · 06/01/2008 09:19

Update - agreed with you all that it was'nt a good idea for him to go to party so got him to drop us off, go home, come and get us then go to chemist.

By which time he said he had a couple of rich tea biscuits and was hungry for more and feeling okay about them. I cooked a huge plate of stodgy boiled rice, peas and sweetcorn and he managed to retain that as well. Then about 8pm he had a packet of McCoys , which have double the surfae fat content thanks to their ridges and sure enough 11pm he's back on the loo!

Have got him some dyoralite (sp) and immodium, as well as some coke and he's currently back in bed after affording me a lie-in - so I can't be too cross with him.
But honestly!

After the McCoys, I would have found it very hard to have had patience.

Well done you.

LowFat · 06/01/2008 09:43

In his defense he said it was because I said no dairy, but yes carbs...and in 'man logic' crips are potato and therefore perfectly packed convenient sized portions of carbs!

And he was hungry.......

He's listing to me today and when he gets up will be having dry toast and nothing else!
