Selective vaccination in older children/adults

Have just been reading a thread on vaccination and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience of bad side effects in older children or adults being vaccinated for the first time.
Neither of my DDs (4.3yo and 15 mo) are vaccinated at present but I would like to vaccinate them against polio and rubella, if I can get single doses, when they are older.
Is there a risk of bad side effects at any age?

You'll struggle to get a single polio jab I think (I mean at all and you'll have to pay for rubella). Both the polio (injected form) and rubella jab have good safety records.

thanks yurt1 - am in Spain where there is no debate and no alternative to the norm. Am hoping that by time i've worked up the courage to get them jabbed there'll be more single ones available...

just remembered - a friend here searched 35 chemists for a tetanus jab after her otherwise unvacced DD cut her thumb open on a coke can. Will ask but may take a few days to track her down...What does tet usually come with?

Adults can get it with diptheria, but for the under 10s it now comes with D/T/P/polio/hib/menC - might be able to separate out men C. Some DT's contain thimerosal though- which is also a no-no for us!
