Mildly dilated aortic root

Hi any advice much appreciated. I have been diagnosed with a 'mildly dilated aortic root' of 4 cm. I am female, late 50's. Asymptomatic apart from possibly a bit more tired than normal. BP is normal and has never been high. Normal BMI and I exercise frequently. The only reason I was investigated was GP thought I had a heart murmur when listening to chest for something else - no heart murmur but this was discovered.

I am waiting for consultant to phone me back (letter received after echocardiogram and subsequent appt with him). What I want to know is whether this is an aneurysm? I've been googling and scaring myself.

I am on review for 2 years. Should this be more frequent? I understand if it grows an op might be needed. Any advice will be much appreciated.

My cousin's partner has been monitored for a few years for the same thing. I spoke to her the other week and at his recent check up it hadn't changed in 3 years. She said he will be offered surgery when it gets to a certain diameter. Sorry i don't know anymore than that.

Thanks for your reply NK346. It's reassuring to hear it hasn't grown in 3 years. Fingers crossed mine won't either.
