Low blood calcium? Worried

Hi, recently went to GP for blood tests to check for any gall bladder issues (abdo pain). I'm not sure what tests they did but am assuming blood count and liver function? Anyway apparently everything is fine but the calcium level is slightly low and they want to do more tests. I'm a bit of a worrier and Professor Google is not generally reassuring. Anyone had this result and nothing to worry about? I am in perimenopause so could that have some bearing on it? Thanks for any info!

Hi, I had some blood tests done a couple of weeks ago and my bone profile came back low. My GP said I’m low on calcium and to up my calcium intake through food. To be honest thinking about it, I very rarely have any dairy products. I’ve been trying to have at least one cup of milk a day plus some fruit and yogurt.
My GP didn’t look at all worried, but I’d still like some more reassurance that all is ok.
How old are you? Menopause did cross my mind too but I’m 32 unless I’m going through it prematurely.

With calcium issues definitely worth asking gp if parathyroid has been checked

I'm 52

Most likely cause by far is going to be a mixture of low Vitamin D, not eating enough calcium and you being peri.

Practically everyone in the UK is short of Vitamin D as we make it through sunlight, half the year we have the wrong kind of sun to do it, and we now all work inside all the time.

After a routine blood test I found out I had low calcium. Doctor advised me to eat a yoghurt every day which did the trick.

Hi,

Did anything come of this OP?

I've had full bloods done now by GP and become aware of a mention of a calcium prob similar to this which I just cannot understand as I already have skimmed milk by the bucket each day, yoghurts/mousse and cheese mainly eg. mozzerella and babybels.

At one point I was even having flavoured full pasterised milk on my weetabix until a supermarket seems to have stopped their version of winter raspberry ripple (white chocolate and raspberry) milk.

Please do make sure parathyroid is checked - low calcium can be a sign of parathyroid issues
