Macular Degeneration

My DH was advised yesterday at his yearly eye check that he has macular degeneration. Just a small spot which is too right eye. His mum also had it and her was central making viewing difficult as she only had one eye.
He was told it was dry.
He has also been referred as his pressures were 26.
He is 60, fit and well but this has knocked him for a six as he knows how his mum suffered.
He has been told to eat lots of greens, carrots, avoid bright sunlight and eat and excercise well.
What else can I do to support him please.
Any advice welcome.

My dad has this, though he has the wet type which is worse. Ive looked into prevention as i know there is a genetic element - kale is the best vegetable to eat and red peppers as well. There may be some eye health vitamins but I havent really looked into what type is best.
