Blood results

Hi
I posted recently about a clump of my eyelashes turning white and a patch of my eyebrows going on the same eye. Also been feeling very tired.
GP sent me for a blood test and I just picked up the results on the NHS app.
Most results within the normal range except vitamin D which was 17 (normal 30 to 300).

Liver function - ALT was 34 - top of normal range is 35.
Kidney - creatinine was 82 (top of normal 84).
Do I need to worry about those close to the top?

Are they likely to tell me to buy otc vit d?

Thanks

did they test folate, hb, ferritin and thyroid?

supercatlady · 06/03/2022 16:33

Yes they were all within the normal range

I did ask them to check hormones as they said could be menopause - they said they don’t for over 45s

Ferritin 'normal' is often too low to function correctly.
Did they test AST? Was that normal? Your ALT is still normal so wi wouldn't worry, but high ALT can be a sign of non alcoholic fatty liver disease (no idea if you are overweight or not!)

Near top of the normal range is in the normal range. Abs yes, why wouldn't you buy otc vit d? Just go get extra strength. You can take more than standard recommended for a few months. It's end of winter. Your levels will be at their lowest. Very common in the uk

supercatlady · 06/03/2022 19:37

I’m overweight yes. They didn’t test AST, but that’s reassuring thanks.

TSH was 1.57

Folate 5.5 and Ferririn 101.

I wasn’t sure whether OTC VitD would be “man enough”

Thanks

Your ferritin is fine! I'd be worried about the possibility of fatty liver/diabetes. There is no test for Gamma GT either? Often that is over the norm for nafld

supercatlady · 07/03/2022 04:41

Plasma glucose was 5 and it was a fasting blood test so likely not diabetes?
No Gamma T
Thanks for your help

As you are symptomatic your GP may consider giving you a high loading dose of vitamin D before you then take a regular maintenance dose in the longer term. I’d contact your surgery to discuss it.

supercatlady · 07/03/2022 18:33

Thank you - have done an e-consult

Hope you are feeling better soon @supercatlady
I’ve had vitamin D deficiency (and had it treated), I also have a big white patch on one eyebrow that just seemed to appear one day. I don’t remember when it was though, so not sure if it was related.

supercatlady · 11/03/2022 12:58

So surgery just phoned.
She said my vit D is “abit low” and I should buy some supplements from the chemist. I asked what strength and she said to start on the lowest dose and they’ll test again in 3 months.
I could cry.
Feeling so tired. When I said that she said my other levels were fine and maybe go for the max dose.
She thinks my lashes could be invitiligo.
I’ll head to the chemist in abit.

Have you checked calcium? Look up primary hyperparathyroid
