Cows milk as a drink before 12 months

I have 3 ds - I should know this or thought about it before but can an 8 month old have a drink of cows milk (not as a main feed) but say with dinner instead of water?

I think it is fine as you can give it to them in cereals, etc, as long as it isn't a main feed. But not sure you should need to. Isn't there an argument against too much milk, and it is so filling, is likely to cause him to eat less.
