Left side rib pain, can't take any more

Has anyone had this or can tell me what to demand from my gp in terms of tests /scans?
I have been suffering for over a year. It started suddenly one day felt like a tennis ball was stuck under the bottom of my ribs. Very uncomfortable on the left side, particularly in bed.
Over the past year the tennis ball feeling has gone but I've been left with extremely uncomfortable ribs.
If I stand I'm OK. If I sit with my back against a chair or in the car I get a pressure feeling.
At night in bed if I lie on the left side it feels like I'm lying on pebbles digging in my ribs. If I lie on my right side I get a pulling, stretching feeling on the left. If I lie on my back again pressure where the bed is pressing. It feels as if my ribs are made of knives digging in to my flesh. I get a burning tingling pain in the area whilst in bed.
I haven't had a proper night's sleep in all this time. The doctor keeps dismissing it as costocondritis. I don't believe it is this as I have this in my upper chest sometimes and It feels completely different. I also don't have any pain on movement or breathing etc during the day. It's just on one side. And I never get any relief by taking painkillers. What could it be?

I can't help with what it could be but I'd try pushing the dr for further help abs possibly see another dr if you're able.
Not sure if you've had any investigations but keep on at them.

See a physio privately and rule out simple things. They are relatively cheap compared to other specialities such as Drs seen privately. Personally, I'd beg steal or borrow and seek private health treatment. It's not always a huge cost and a lot less than people pay for a cheap holiday. NHS are crap now, you'll wait forever.

Are you overweight? It could be fatty liver, doctors say it doesn't cause pain but on a forum for this the vast majority suffer from pain.

That area is where your spleen is.

I would certainly be pushing the GP to investigate further. This has gone on way long enough.

Hope you get a diagnosis and feel better soon.

Had similar for 15 years. Countless resp infections and pneumonia twice. I'm finally being seen by a consultant but bloods have been normal so far and no urgent call on my CT so I'll be waiting until May.

Did you ever find out what this was? I'm experiencing the same thing right now been going on 6 months!

Vicky1811 · 19/01/2023 21:39

Did you find out? I have the same, but docs say its costochondritis and I don't think it is. I could have written your post! X

lobeliasb · 06/02/2023 17:26

Have you looked into slipping rib syndrome?

DareDDaze · 06/02/2023 17:53

Could it be a cracked rib?
