Could this be a throat or chest infection?

i have had a persistent cough for weeks now & it is worse at night (kept me awake last night), I have this awful taste in my mouth more so at the back of my throat, could this be some kind of infection? The taste is awful. Ihave a good oral hygiene thing going on so the taste can't be due to poor oral hygiene. Any ideas what the awful taste could be?

Possibly catarrh in your throat - which would be worse at night when you're lying down because it collects there.

Coughs can last for up to six weeks without there necessarily being an infection, so it may just be that you're still not over it yet. But if you're coughing up discoloured goo rather than clear, it would be worth seeing the GP about.

Thanks wigwam. Its not discoloured so I guess it can't be anything too serious.

Acid reflux can give rise to a nasty taste in mouth and persistent cough. Just a guess.

could be a post nasal drip, this will cause a cough and also collect lots of nasty stuff at the back of the throat

I was thimking acid reflux too. I have suffered in the past. Don;t really want to start taking Laprozole (I think that's whats its called) again though, its strong stuff. Any other recommendations?

Gaviscon is an over-the-counter job but is gentle and tolerable.

Otherwise, tilt the head of your bed with a couple of bricks to keep the acid downhill.
