GERD/Heartburn

I tried for an hour and twenty minutes on the phone to get hold of my GP Surgery.
When I did get through all the slots for a callback we're gone.

I have had what I assume is heartburn since Friday. I bought a Omeprazole over-the-counter, I've bought Gaviscon. I have a general burning in the middle of my chest and a sore throat. The burning pain isn't relieved by sitting down and it's not worse when I'm moving around so I don't think it's my heart.
I'm eating well I don't drink I don't smoke and I don't have any caffeine really.

Is there anything I can try? Is there anything better than omeprazole?
I have had bouts of heartburn in the past but nothing as long length of this.

Change your diet - Google and ginger sweets?

Abracadabra12345 · 02/03/2022 21:40

I also find milk helps.

If it continues without let up, please push for a referral. Better to get to the root cause.

Babdoc · 02/03/2022 21:50

Have you done a Covid test, OP, because that awful burning sensation in the chest was my earliest symptom.

MumThatsNotFair · 02/03/2022 21:52

Lanzoprazole is an alternative to omeprazole and it worked much better for my son.

MumThatsNotFair · 02/03/2022 21:53

It was prescription from the dr though

Try sipping soda water.

Did you get to the bottom of this OP? You've exactly described what I'm experiencing

gamerchick · 27/05/2022 15:31

You can get a wedge to elevate the head of your bed. Doing the GERD diet for a few weeks (I do a month) can help healing. It's boring as fuck like.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 27/05/2022 16:18

I've just looked at foods that help and it's literally what I eat.

Porridge for breakfast with almond milk
Chicken, brown rice and broccoli for lunch or dinner. Or some other lean meat or fish.

Banana as a snack. And some Greek yoghurt.

Maybe I need to quit caffeine 😳 but I neeeed that when I'm on 4am starts 🥱

If your diet is low residue anyway (even though it might be caffine triggering it) you may need tests to check there's nothing else going on.
