I’m doing a gym challenge - should I feel this bad?

I’m four weeks in to a gym challenge where my calorie intake has been reduced to 1800 cals a day. The first week was 1,500 and it wasn’t sustainable - I’m v.active as is.

Pre challenge I was fit but paid no attention to my eating habits. In the past three weeks I’ve lost nearly 2kg and look more defined (which is my goal) but I feel really upset.

I’ve struggled with hunger on occasions and have learnt some protein-y hacks, but just feel on the verge of tears, overly sensitive and coming to understand how people get obsessed with cal counting - it’s something I’ve never done before now.

I’ve had a stressful couple of weeks but is my new regime the likely culprit behind my crushing lows? I feel brittle and sad despite everyone telling me I look good. Just wondering to what extent this is my routine versus just life being a bit sucky at the moment.

Any ideas?
