Does anyone know how you go about getting medical treatment (cataracts in this case) done privately instead of going onto an NHS waiting list?

You need to find the consultant you want to do the procedure and then either contact them direct (if they allow self referrals) or ask your gp to send a referral over.

You can just telephone and book an appointment with an eye specialist.

You just find somewhere that does private cataract surgery and book an appointment there are plenty of places I think even optical express does it now costs around £4k.

I had a YAG procedure done by Optimax (laser removal of a cloudy film that forms on the back of replacement lens sometimes) and they were fantastic. Really quick and efficient, everyone was friendly and professional.

Just checked their site and they do cataracts too.
