Fainting while lying down?

Hello all,

I woke up this morning with a period pain, which quickly developed into a really severe pain accompanied by sweating, feeling very hot (not clammy), nausea and tummy trouble - but no actual period. I took a prescribed anti-inflammation medication and after about 1 hour the pain went away.

However, at one point I walked into the bathroom where I fainted (I almost hit my head on the tiled shower base). I decided to stay lying down on the tiles, but I had a curious feeling that I was continuing to faint even while lying down. I raised my legs but this feeling continued for about 20 minutes. It was very disorienting and quite stressful. I am used to having very severe period attacks so the pain itself didn't bother me, it was more the feeling of being totally out of control of my body that was worrying.

Has anybody else experienced a feeling like this? I've had a look online but I can't find much on it. Could it just have been a psychological reaction to a sudden onset of cramps? I haven't actually started bleeding so I don't know how it could be due to loss of blood.

Could it be an ectopic pregnancy?

Classic symtpoms of abdominal pain, sudden collapse?

In any case, any abdominal pain that's caused you to collapse, I'd be recommending getting checked out today.

Thank you for your advice FixTheBone. That's quite worrying, I did consider that it may have been an early early miscarriage because the level of pain was comparable, but I haven't had any symptoms of pregnancy (apart from those that are also pre-menstrual symptoms, I really don't think I am pregnant but these things can go through your head). I will take a test though to be sure.

Have you taken that medication before? Are you taking anything else as well? My dh was given a strong anti-inflammatory plus a steering pain-reliever, and he was fine on either one alone. But when he took both within a couple of hours of each other, he would faint around the time the second one kicked in. And when he came round he would feel stoned. Sounds rather like your experience.

Strong pain-reliever, not steering.

Thank you for your message Dilbertian. I hadn't taken any pain relief, only the anti-inflammatory which in the past hasn't caused any problems. But 'stoned' is a good way of describing how I felt. I have an appointment this week with my gynaecologist (who prescribed me the medication) so I will raise this with her!

I've felt like I'm fainting whilst lying down.
