Aneamia and iron levels

I didn't realise the pain in my chest was anaemia. I have been supplementing and it has taken nearly 7 months to feel nearly normal again and fully breathe. The pain in my arm went and I don't feel anxious anymore which is linked to low iron levels. At present it feels like someone is lightly pressing the centre of my chest with an embroidery needle. Is it worth getting an up to date blood test? I haven't had one for a while and knowing my levels I can see what needs sorting. Just concerned the GP will fob me off going to the surgery as I have heard they still won't see patients. I just want the last bit of pain gone.

Our surgery have always requested a repeat blood test 3/4 months after starting the iron tablets they prescribed to check they are working.
Have they not rechecked at all since you started the iron?
