Palpable/ Skipped Heartbeat

HollyBerryTree · 23/02/2022 14:08

I can't say it's palpitations as my heart isn't fast but I can feel it beating in the centre of my chest.
So I decided to take my pulse, not really sure of why.
So, in an amateur way I found my pulse and it's almost certainly skipping a beat here and there, no pattern to it really, maybe every 3 or up to 10?
I don't smoke, drink or have any caffeine. I have been asked to lose weight as my BP is a bit high and I am at risk of diabetes. I'm not stressed.

I've lost a stone with more to go, now this! I'm worse!

I'm 52 and menopausal, is this yet another symptom?
I had Covid recently but there was about a week between recovery and me feeling the palpitations

I'd be glad of any similar experiences or things to think about, I'm wait for a GP appointment

Well mine were a combination of hiatus hernia, GERD and menopause. Happened after eating and sometimes drinking

BUT I did get checked out, 24 hour monitor and echocardiogram. So get checked out

I’ve had this since I was pregnant with Ds2 (24). It has spells where it’s worse (continually for hours) and times when I don’t have it for ages. Strangely, since I retired, I very rarely have an episode. It’s always worse if I’m unwell.

I’ve had ECG’s, 2 echocardiograms and a 24 hour monitor with nothing untoward found. It was really, really bad one evening so I went to A&E and they managed to catch it on a monitor and have said it’s harmless ectopic beats. It’s worth getting it checked out just to be sure but it’s very common apparently.

I couldn't speak to a doctor but a nurse has booked me in for an ecg at the surgery in 10 days!!

With me, the random pulse, skipped beats are constant

I’ve had spells of having it constantly and other times where it will come and go. Is your pulse otherwise regular except for these missed beats? Do you otherwise feel well? I do think this could be related to Covid but could also be related to weight loss. Are you drinking more fluids or low carbing as either/both can affect your electrolytes and you might benefit from an electrolyte replacement tab. I use High 5 dispersal tabs but there’s loads of different ones. The only other thing I can think of is getting your Vit D levels checked (or taking a supplement) because I’m sure I’ve had it less since I’ve been taking them.

Although I was a nurse for 30 years this is in no way intended as medical advice just the observations of having been there and worn the t-shirt!

Is there any chance you’re anaemic ?
My ferritin was low and one of my symptoms was ectopic beats.
Heavy periods due to peri menopause was the cause.

Hollyberrytree, hello, I'm going through exactly what you describe atm. I've had a holter and ecg done and found I've got svt. However, lately I'm noticing I can feel my heart beat, almost thud like..I've questioned whether its the start or peri..(I'm 41, period cycle shorter). I also suffer from GERD....I think about it all the time and I believe it's making it that much worse then what it actually is....
