Chipped root canal

I had a root canal done just over a year ago and today some of it has broken off. Will try and book a dentist appointment but no idea how long it will take to get an appointment.
Can a chipped root canal be fixed with another root canal or does it usually mean a crown?

The actual root canal is right down in the roots of the tooth, like in your jaw bone, if that makes sense? Quite often teeth are crowned after RC because the tooth becomes more brittle without its nerve supply.
