Blood in stool

For the last few days I have noticed a streak of red blood in my stool. I'm presuming it's a tear as it hurts. Just started the other day. Makes me feel faint thinking about it. How long do I give it before contacting the dr?

A few days, no more. They may want you to bring in a stool sample, so ring them first to discuss it. GI bleeding is often not serious, but it's nothing to mess around with.
