One tumor marker up, cancer?

Hi I'm really worried about a family member. He has had all his bloods checked and apparently one tumor marker has come up and they have booked him in for a mri scan. Google as always just says cancer etc but any experiences with someone with one of these up and it not being cancer related? I'm really worried. Thank you (only in his twenties my family member)

Yes something similar happened to my younger brother and it turned out to be nothing, would try not to jump to conclusions. Easier said than done I know!

Do you know which marker and how raised it is? That would give an idea of the likely outcomes. Even so, the chance of it actually being cancer when referred for an MRI is still very small, particularly in someone so young.

Was this standard bloods or did he go to the doc with anything else?

The reason I ask is I was put through a lot of unnecessary stress with this. I don't have cancer btw.

I had this and it was a benign ovarian cyst.

Turned out to be non cancerous. I will keep this post up for future reference if anyone needs the answer and are worried for themselves. Thank you all for your responses Smile
