Colonscopy happened today

My fiance had a colonscopy today (27 years old, has been having rectal bleeding since last June).

The consultant said all went well, didn't see anything and wasn't worried. Thinks it's all related to diet and that he needs a high fibre diet and to drink 3 litres of water a day. He said the bleeding is probably coming from straining and thus pushing on veins. I've been worrying myself sick so this is a big relief.

The consultant took biopsies of the lining to be sent away. Is this normal? I wasn't allowed in because of covid so didn't get to ask the questions and my fiance was a bit out of it after sedation. Does anyone know how long these results could possibly take? Does this sound routine? I'm such a worrier so just looking for some advice.

Yes normal. I had one last year. They were checking for microscopic colitis in mine. Was told it’d be 4-6weeks for results. Think it was about a month In the end.
I got a letter when I left explaining, did he have one?

Taking biopsies is normal. In my last colonoscopy I had 14 biopsies taken and I got the results 2 weeks later.

I have had sooooo many. Yes it’s normal, don’t worry x

Absolutely normal to take biopsies.

My husband has regular colonoscopies and a genetic predisposition to bowel cancer. They always take biopsies. I am always terrified. The results always seem to take ages (4-6 weeks). So far they have all been absolutely nothing to worry about.

Very normal to take biopsies.

From someone who has a lot of bowel cancer in the family they wouldn’t reassure you like that if they were at all concerned. That’s great news.

What do the colon biopsies show?

I had a colonoscopy last week and I don't know how many biopsies were taken.

canyon2000 · 05/02/2022 11:38

@AutumnDance my biopsies showed that there were no pre-cancerous or cancerous cells and that I have inflammation.
