Greasy hair

Wasn’t sure whether to post this in beauty or here but the last two weeks my hair has gone from being perfectly normal to so greasy I’m embarrassed to go outside and now wear hats all the time.

I’ve not changed my shampoo, my diet or the amount I wash it. I can feel the grease in the roots when I’m washing it and know it’s not going to come out.

I’m 41 so wondering if it’s hormonal. That’s the only thing I can think of.

Anyone got any ideas before I shave it all off??

How often do you wash it?

Coriandersucks · 03/02/2022 20:28

Every other day normally but I’ve washed it 3 times in the last 3 days and it’s made no difference.

Deffo worth getting hormone levels checked

anniewaitsforacall · 03/02/2022 20:44

I definitely think it's hormones. I've had the opposite realisation in recent months. I've had greasy hair since puberty, could never bear to go a day without washing it my entire adult life. Recently I can go about 4 days before I need to, and it looks better about day 2/3. Same age as you. Not bragging as it's still not great hair at all, but a huge sudden change post-40.

All I can say is Batiste, and lots of it.

tintodeverano2 · 03/02/2022 20:46

My hair gets like this. I occasionally use a clarifying shampoo for a week and then switch back to my normal shampoo.

Also, do you shampoo twice when easing your hair?

tintodeverano2 · 03/02/2022 20:46

Washing not easing!

Coriandersucks · 03/02/2022 21:07

Yep tried washing it twice and it’s just as greasy. Never known anything like it so weird how sudden the change was.

Never tried clarifying shampoo will look into that and book a docs appt for hormone levels (and stock up on batiste in the meantime gah)

Oh it's so hard to deal with greasy hair.
Use a really good shampoo (the t gel for greasy hair is great and lots recommend the ginger body shop shampoo)

I damp my roots and apply shampoo. Then leave it for a little while and shower and shampoo my hair. Dry shampoo straight after washing

KatharinaRosalie · 03/02/2022 21:21

If it's still greasy after washing, sounds indeed like product build-up.
This one is really good - expensive, but you only need a little so last for ever. www.amazon.co.uk/K%C3%A9rastase-Fusio-Energising-Scrub-250ml/dp/B07VRP968B?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I had this when I went on the pill so I would definitely get your hormones checked. I would wash it and it wouldn’t feel clean, it would feel greasy again a few hours later.

I’m in the same boat as you OP, my hair went from being normal to greasy almost overnight. I’m 40 this year so am guessing it’s hormonal (my skin is a mess too). My hair is very fine so it looks lank anyway but now it’s 100 times worse! 😣 I bought OGX charcoal shampoo and that helps a bit.
